Volunteer

Volunteers
The Kiwanis Sunrisers are looking for support from the community to help manage the First Tee program.  Volunteers don't necessarily need to have golf instruction experience, but can provide valuable support in guiding the players through certain games and layouts and help with the practice of the 9 core values. More information on our Volunteer Program can be found below.

Volunteer Information
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer for The First Tee Anacortes.  We encourage and welcome anyone who gets excited about making a positive impact on kids, and making a difference in our community.  You do not need much golf skill or knowledge!  If you can teach and model values like respect, honesty, and integrity; and life skills like communication and goal-setting, you can help our program.  Please take a moment to look through the attached forms.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete a background check at Safe Hiring Solutions. The cost of the background check is covered by Kiwanis. Click on the link below and follow the instructions.

The First Tee Teaching Philosophy:

The First Tee program is participant based and activity centered. Participants are constantly engaged in activities in a safe, fun arena where exploratory learning is encouraged. “Let the kid figure it out” is our best approach to facilitating learning.

The First Tee Curriculum:

We are a character education/youth development program whose core curriculum focuses on a set of Life Skills, Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits. Golf instruction is secondary in our curriculum. We are most interested in building good character: better kids are more important to us than better golfers. Our Code of Conduct at The First Tee is respect; and this concept, as well as the Life Skills, the Nine Core Values and the Nine Healthy Habits are seamlessly woven into every session we facilitate.

The First Tee Volunteer Benefits:

  • Complimentary range balls for active volunteers

  • Opportunity to positively impact the life of a child

  • Opportunity to make new friends

  • Various rewards
